When 15 adults are gathered under one roof for a family vacation, keeping everyone fed can quickly become a full-time job. Someone has to plan the meals, shop for ingredients, cook for the group, serve everything, and face the kitchen clean up afterward.
For this extended family staying at a gorgeous vacation rental on Lake Blue Ridge in Morganton, GA, the host wanted to give everyone a real break from cooking and cleaning up. He asked for two relaxed evenings where the entire family could simply enjoy a good meal together without lifting a finger.
So, Chef George planned two casual buffet dinners on two separate evenings, each with it’s own theme and menu. Chef-led, buffet-style service was a natural fit for this group. It kept the atmosphere casual, relaxed and gave everyone a chance to linger over the meal and enjoy the setting without feeling rushed.

The first night was Italian, with cheesy stuffed shells, sausage with peppers and onions, marinated caprese salad, garlic bread, and cannoli for dessert.
The second night leaned into traditional comfort food, with roast chicken, herb-crusted pork tenderloin, garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, roasted vegetables, and mini cheesecakes served with blueberry or strawberry compote.
Both dinners had exactly the relaxed rhythm the host was hoping for. Guests cleaned their plates, came back for seconds, and still had just enough leftovers for a little late-night snacking. Some gathered inside around the dining table, while others carried their plates out to the deck to enjoy the breathtaking Lake Blue Ridge views. The meal worked around the way the family naturally wanted to spend their evening, which is one of the best parts of bringing dinner directly to the cabin.
Since this was a pet-friendly vacation rental, Rocky, the family pup, was every bit the center of attention. He didn’t have to miss out on any of the fun. He went out on the boat, lounged on the deck, and even got a little bite of chicken at dinner.

By the end of the second evening, it truly felt like we had made new friends. The family loved the Blue Ridge area so much they were already dreaming about purchasing a cabin here, and something tells us we will be seeing them again soon.
